| | A lot can happen in just a few hours! Today I went astray from my usual "Friday Routine". Normally I would come home, eat lunch, take a long nap and then watch RAW, tape "The Closer" and stay up late playing on the computer. Today I decided to go to the movies by myself to watch a scary movie. Yes, I felt brave. I went and saw 1408! You see, I am a huge Stephen King fan. I favor the psychological, messing-with-your-mind horror in favor of the blood and gore as of late. And 1408 leaves almost nothing to be desired. It is very eerie, with a sometimes predictable scaretactics but mainly suprising plotlines. I feel like I want to read that book now (or was it just a short story?). I was definitely glad that I wasn't alone in the theater and I was glad it was daylight for me to walk home. When I came home I wanted to check my email, do a quick check of my Xanga and then go to review and edit and transfer to DVD the Bon Jovi concert from yesterday. Well, I received an unexpected e-mail of very exciting content. This led me to peruse several websites, download stuff, redisign my myspace etc. That's how marathon PC-sessions start! While still on the computer I receive a notification of a new blog by one of my wrestlerfriends, which I promptly check out. The news there shocks and prompts me to log on to AIM to see if my friends I talk to about wrestling are online. They are and so it starts! The News? Wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and child were found dead in their Atlanta home! What? At the time there were no details released but rumors are running rampant from murder-suicide to gas poisoning. The latest news just in read as follows: AP Posted: 2007-06-25 22:16:20 FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (June 25) - WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a homicide.
Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the three were found at their home about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details. Pope said results of autopsies on Benoit, his wife Nancy, and 7-year-old son Daniel were expected Tuesday.
Benoit, 40, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.
"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.
Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."
Benoit, a Canadian native, maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.
The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast. Frankly, I don't know what to think, I'm still in shock, but my first inkling on him (even though I only met him once) was that he was pretty level-headed. That would coincide with all the tributes that could be heard tonight on RAW from his colleagues and friends.
And so I get into one AIM discussion into another, end up upgrading AIM, which I had put off for years (it seems), and I'm still sitting here typing. The day has come full circle from Normalcy (work) to Rebellion (go to movies instead of nap), to seaking a cheap horror thrill (watching Stephen King movie),to an exciting prospect for a once in a blue moon opportunity, to real life horror (Chris Benoit's death), back to semi-normalcy (sitting here typing and surfing). I really should go to bed now. |
