  • POW WOW

Like I said... for some reason I got behind on my posts. So today the entry to show you the pictures from the Pow Wow a couple of weeks ago.

It had been a while since I've been to one of those. They are always a lot of fun. I like to watch the amazing dancers, ogle their clothes, imagine myself in a world and a time when these Native peoples still prospered and most of all - I enjoy dancing myself.

    come on in.....

first we had to gather our strength....

Indian Taco (with Fry Bred) - how many points in that?

    ...

I'd love one of those outfits...

    just fantabulous!

jingle dancer - and the moccasins

I believe these were grass dancers..

the drummers.... VERY important! No dance without them

Rygar joining the "Inter Tribal" (notice his new favorite HP shirt!)

    dancing with Mom

    Tante Asi is dancing, too!

    one of the exhibits ....

    ... and an exhibitor

He was trying hard to pass as Native American!

All in all it was a very, very fun day!

  • OMG. FRY. BREAD. My Grannie used to always make that for breakfast, with molasses--which I didn't care for so much--or butter, or honey, etc., etc., etc....The funny thing is, I always thought fry bread was a southern thing (my Grannie, may she R.I.P., WAS a Southern Maryland girl, after all), but nobody else has ever heard of it when I've brought it up. I mentioned something to my sister about it sometime last year, and she was like, "yeah, Grannie said something to me about the recipe coming from Native Americans..." and check it out! It apparently did!

I haven't been to a Pow Wow thing since, like...gawd...8th grade, I think? I went during the summer when I used to visit my cousins in Ohio. I LOVED it--I always have liked things like that. Food and trinkets which to buy. What's not to love, eh?

It's probably best that Rygar can't pass as a Native American--he'd be stealing all of THEIR women, too!

  • @Shana1228 -

.... or with honey and powdered sugar..... mmmmmm...... cool, you learned something new today! LOL! We first learned of Fry Bread when we went to the Southwest and they had it on the Navajao reservation.

You know that UNC has teh PowWow every year? They has like a Native American society or something like that and they organize a Pow Wow every year.

  • @assipassi -

I definitely go for the sugar and honey. MMMMM....

I did NOT know that UNC had a thing! How do I get info for this, and are you coming with me???

  • Ry is sooo cute!! And you look so skinny, gah!
    Awesome pics!!

Love you... just 6 more days!!
